2020 Artist in Residence – Justin Bruhn

Award winning artist, photographer and conservationist, Justin Bruhn has over 10 years of expertise in underwater photography. Since learning to dive in South Australia in 1993 Justin has completed over 4000 dives in 15 different countries.

Justin’s love of the ocean has inspired him to create a business that raises awareness for endangered and vulnerable marine life through his stunning photography. Since being represented by the David Hart Galleries on the Sunshine Coast back in 2013, Justin’s canvas prints and signature style acrylic wall mounts have been procured by fine art collectors, resorts and hotels all over the world.

Justin’s accolades include winning an award for his image of an endangered green turtle at the Cairns Underwater Film Festival in 2014. The same image, ‘Reflections’ sold out in the David Hart Gallery. Justin won the Creative Industries category in the Sunshine Coast Business Award 2018. Recently his business, Pure Underwater Imaging, was commissioned by the Sunshine Coast Council to supply artwork for the Beerwah Aquatic Centre refurbishment.

Justin’s artistic style is in alignment with ocean themed beach house décor, working with colours that suit the interior design of coastal properties. Wide angle reefscapes and marine life iconic to Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef including turtles and humpback whales are featured in his artwork collections.

Pure Underwater Imaging is in partnership with the Australian Marine Conservation Society. Justin contributes products and images to help with fundraising and raising awareness to marine conservation issues.

‘People protect what they love and I endeavor to inspire a love of the ocean through my photography’.
